Massage Therapy for Whiplash

Whiplash causes pain all over the body when a sudden acceleration-deceleration movement jars the neck. The most common cause is a vehicle collision, but other sporting activities have been known to trigger whiplash or soft-tissue damage.

While whiplash strikes in the neck, it also affects muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, joints, causing an overall discomfort. Massage Therapy treatments alleviate pain and restore movement and function to get Whiplash patients moving again.

Symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Jaw pain
  • Fatigue & weakness
  • Insomnia
  • Tingling and numbness in fingers and/or arms
  • Pain (face, head, neck, back)
  • Sensitivity to noise
  • Memory loss or forgetfulness
  • Irritability
  • Spasm
  • Stiffness
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Dizziness and/or nausea

Treatment: Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) will design a unique treatment program depending on the patient's diagnosis. Typically treatment consists of a combination of soft-tissue Massage Therapy and therapeutic exercises.

During treatment, RMTs educate patients on the complications created by a Whiplash injury and how a Massage Therapy program can prevent chronic conditions from developing. Patients learn to manage their pain and get back to normal daily activities.

Benefits: Massage Therapy plays a key role in restoring pain-free range of motion, improving muscle strength, endurance and tone, eliminating swelling, and reducing headaches.
