Serenity Therapeutic Massage welcomes Joy Larsen, RMT CMT Registration #4867
Joy's love of travel to developing countries was the catalyst for beginning
her career as a massage therapist. Working with street people in Calcutta,
Joy quickly learned that touch is the universal language and her experiences
in India, Pakistan, Kenya and Uganda working with people living with leprosy
and AIDS made a profound impact on her life. Returning to Vancouver, she
enrolled in the 3000 hour massage therapy program at the West Coast College
of Massage Therapy in New Westminster, BC.
After receiving her diploma, Joy continued her studies in anatomy as she
attended at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon to complete a 6-day
intensive gross anatomy dissection course taught by Gil Headly, PhD. She has
also continued post graduate studies with the Upledger Institute studying
and practising craniosacral therapy, as well as myofascial release
techniques, muscle energy and deep tissue therapy.
Joy has recently returned to Vancouver after completing contract work in
Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), where she set up a massage clinic in a
remote fishing lodge.
She is committed to her profession and has experience in a broad range of pathologies,
including shoulder problems, sciatic nerve issues, neck pain issues, headaches, stress-related
issues and pregnancy massage, using myfascial unwinding and release techniques,
deep tissue, joint mobilizations, craniosacral and energy work. She also has experience
working with autistic children.
